Since China raised their standard of what types of recyclables they will process, the states of Australia come together in hopes of resolving the recycling crisis. The commonwealth is searching for an agreement that both them and state counterparts boost the capacity to recycle for the nation. The states needed to review and update their procurement rules, so they can ensure industries are able to recycle or reuse their packaging by 2025. Australia produces 64 million tons of waste every year. Since the Chinese ban, all the recyclables  have been stock piled and continues to grow. The Australian government invested around only $200 million in pursuing waste-to-energy projects, because they did not consider recycling to be a federal issue until recently. National leadership is responsible for overlooking recyclables to make sure they do not end up in the landfill. The Victorian environment minister proposed a  $16.5 million scheme to develop 130 electronic waste collection sites, and it includes funding for a consumer education program.
