The aim Millennium Development Goals was raising the awareness of development issues among EU citizens. The program started in 2000 is now coming to an end in 2015, which has been proclaimed the European Year for development (EYD). The EU is the largest aid donor in the world and still plays a fundamental role in the development project at global level. However, even the discussion has now moved to what will happen after 2015, not all the objectives have been reached. On the one hand, 805 million people are hungry, on the other 70 million people gained access to water. In conclusion, the debate on the post-2015 development goals shall be focused on what Europe can still do in order to fight against hunger and poverty.
