The impact of tax EU tax havens on the economy of developing countries is more than real. In fact, the possibility to hide the profits from normal taxation is do not only damage the Western economies, but also the developing ones. Indeed, companies are able to create trusts which can ensure a lower level of transparency and a protection to criminals trying to invest in licit activities. Trusts are in the favourite channel for money laundering coming from illicit activities. Especially in fields such as the oil and petrol, the risk of shady trust is very high and close to the edge of illicit money laundering. Where corruption is spread, governments are able to invest in trusts through an anonymous company and to have a profit back. Even if transparency is the basis on any kind of democracy, the EU Member States opposed to the proposal of a more transparent taxation regime.
