Han Yuquan

Visiting Scholar from Tsinghua University, Beijing (PRC)

HAN Yuquan is a Fellow at gLAWcal – Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development and was a EU Commission Marie Curie Fellow and Visiting Scholar
(2014-2015) at gLAWcal – Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development in the framework of the People Programme (Marie Curie Actions) of the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under REA grant agreement n°269327 Acronym of the Project: EPSEI (2011-2015) “Evaluating Policies for
Sustainable Energy Investments: Towards an Integrated Approach on National and International Stage”.

Han Yuquan is a Senior Researcher at Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University with research projects on the “Utilization of Industrial by-products for
Manufacture of Building Materials in China”, funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China in Beijing. Han Yuquan is also Senior Researcher at the Center for Environmental, Natural Resources & Energy Law of Tsinghua University (THCEREL) with research projects on the “Sustainable Landfill Materials and Technology in China”, funded by the Chinese Ceramic Society. He obtained his Bachelor Degree (1974-1978) in Civil Engineering from Tongji University in Shanghai with a thesis about “The Trend of Modern Building Materials”.

From 1978 to 1986, he worked as a Technician in Wuhan Iron and Steel Company Limited. From 1986 to 1989, he continued his studies to earn a Master Degree in
Material Science at the School of Material Science, Wuhan University of Technology with a thesis on the “Durability of Concrete Materials and Structure”.
After his graduation in 1991, he spent 6 years as Editor and Editorial Committee Member of the Journal of Building Materials in Beijing. In 1998, Han Yuquan became a Full-Time Researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University and since 2014, he is also Part-Time Researcher of THCEREL.

Han Yuquan has been also a Visiting Scholar at Tokyo Institute of Technology (2002) and California Institute of Technology (2006).
As one of the Chinese leading scholars in the field of Sustainable Building Materials, in 1998, he became one of the standing directors of the Technical Committee of Building Materials, and in 2000 of the Chinese Architecture Society and Chinese Ceramic Society.

In 2002, he was selected as a member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Chinese Ceramic Society. His main research area of interest is “The Technology and Policy for the Implementation of Sustainable Building Materials”.
