Between October 2nd 2023 and March 28th 2024, the State of Qatar will host the horticultural EXPO. The upcoming event, to be held in the State’s capital Doha, will be titled “Green Desert, Better Environment”, and will be the first EXPO on this kind to the organized in a desert environment. A challenge starting from its title, the exhibition is expected to welcome the participation of many countries, and will explore four sub-themes:

  • Modern Agriculture; providing innovation, research and scientific advancements to produce safe, sustainable and affordable food for the increasing population of the world.
  • Technology & Innovation; a vehicle for future green solutions, while playing an important role in changing direction in the use of fossil fuels, creating solutions for urban industrial pollution and advancing alternatives for chemical-intensive agriculture.
  • Environmental Awareness; a tool for encouraging the protection of natural resources, raising a sense of connection to the natural world and promoting sustainable development.
  • Sustainability; is the common objective for balancing different needs along with awareness about economy, technology, environment and social sciences.

The overall concept aims at responding to the climatic emergence the world is presently facing. In particular, the exhibition intends to raise awareness on the fact that one third of the Earth’s land surface is threatened by desertification. The amount or arid land increases indeed by 12 million hectares each year, and only through systematic and coordinated actions it will be eventually possible to respond to this common challenge.
This horticultural event answers to this global call to gathering, based on what is proposed to be a shared and dialogical approach in facing a challenge that is actually affecting our planet and its eco-system considered as a whole. According to the organizers, the EXPO site will blossom into an experience of innovation, sustainability, sharing, culture and entertainment, and will be an event to make history.
